Here are the takeaways from India's Squad Announcement for the Champions Trophy 2025 Jasprit Bumrah Named In India Squad

Jasprit Bumrah has been named in India's squads for the Champions Trophy and the England ODIs despite not being fully fit.

The 31-year-old suffered a back spasm during the fifth and final Test of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025. The speedster was taken for scans after he experienced some discomfort on Day 2.

Bumrah was unable to bowl in the final two days of the Test,panaloko casino which India lost by six wickets. The Board of Control for Cricket in India did not reveal the full extent of his injury. 

However, Harshit Rana will be a part of the England series to give him time to recover before the ICC event.

Already being looked at as a future leader, Shubman Gill gets his stamp of authority as he has been named the vice captain for India’s ODI squads for the upcoming England series and the Champions Trophy. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal Gets ODI Call As Back-up Opener

One of the massive talking points after the squad announcement was the young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal making the cut.

The 23-year-old was India’s leading run-getter in Tests in 2024, but is yet to make his ODI debut. However, his List-A numbers are promising with five hundreds and a double ton in 32 matches.

Rishabh Pant In Despite No-so Promising ODI Numbers

Rishabh Pant has been named in India's squad alongside KL Rahul. There will be a few question marks over the team's middle-order but the flamboyance and his match-winning abilities earns Pant a spot.

“You have brought immense glory to India and have inspired millions of young athletes to pursue their dreams,” Mandaviya was quoted as saying in a media release.

However, not everyone from the team flew back home as PR Sreejesh stayed back in the French capital for the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

However, it is expected that India will go with Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya at four, five and six.

Kuldeep Yadav Finds A Place

All the fitness issues, at least for now, has been put to rest as Kuldeep Yadav has been named in the India's squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 competition and the England ODIs.

Kuldeep has not played any competitive cricket since his hernia surgery in November.

There were a few reports flowing around that Varun Chakravarthy, who has been making quite a bit of noise since his T20I comeback and the spinner has done well under Gautam Gambhir at the IPL level for Kolkata Knight Riders could be a part of the squad if Kuldeep Yadav is unfit.

Hardik, Jadeja, Named First-choice All-Rounders

India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been missing from one-day international cricket since his injury at the 2023 ODI World Cup is all set to return to the squad.

The 31-year-old displayed his bowling fitness during the Syed Mushtaq Ali and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. 

Ravindra Jadeja, who averages 32.42 with the bat and 36.07 with the ball has made the 15-member side for the Champions Trophy and England matches as the first-choice all-rounder.

India play three ODIs against England starting from February 6 and will run till the 12th.

It will also be their first one-day international games since the tour of Sri Lanka in August 2024. luck9
